Ford Focus Windscreen Mists And Car Smells

The car is not fitted with air conditioning, the right hand side of the windscreen mists up even with the heater on. Sometimes a billow of smoke comes from the vent up the windscreen - more noticeable in the cold. The car smells of curry. The pollen filter has been changed. It smells when the heater is on, which has to be on to clear the mist on the drivers side. The passenger side is always clear of mist. When the heater is set to cold and on full blast and you turn it from cold to hot the smell is really apparent. Can anyone help?

it sounds like part of the motor is melting/burning. It could be the resistor pack or the connections to it - i believe the connections are a common problem..
