so if all else fails, we are half way there to autograssin!!....

but I am trying to work out why its so tough to get started in mornings....I have put brand new glow plugs in...goodens too...no real change...

It starts (tries) as though dead battery, so I charged it, no difference...so I hooked it up to another car and jumped it, no realy change...thought maybe air in pipes, so primed it before starting, still no difference.

It will go but it takes at least 10revolutions....

add to the mystery that the rev counter goes up as its trying to start??? goes to about 30mph!!!

also spotted this...been disconnected while ago it would appear...but I don't know why or what it does....

It takes fuel after filter, sensors it for somthing, then it goes to pump.

Any one shed some light on the matter??!?!

Piggy :)

Have you checked the glow plugs are definately working? Could be a faulty relay?

with all due respect, I aint thick...hence the embarrassment of asking...

yes it gives the correct voltage at the correct time, including continuous after engine has started.

Just to add...won't start at all now but when trying to start the speedo now goes to 70mph!!!???

Bit late I know.. But the thing in the second picture that your pointing at is a fuel heater, to stop the fuel waxing at cold tempratures.

ahhhh...no not late yet....due to weather, she still got the gutted interior...fixed the leak though, and with heaters, now is dry inside :)

still gota figure out starter situation....I have a feeling towards battery....not good under load...charge rate is fine...but battery looks older than me grandad!

Piggy :)

I wouldn't thought the fuel heater being bypassed would make any difference with the starting.

An explanation into the gauges rising could be due to the voltage drop when trying to start. Have seen this before on a Escort with a duff battery.

Disconnect you battery and try jumping it again with the other motor. If you've got a duff battery you should notice the difference

yea...ta....

i believe the old 8v diesel engines have a "cold start relay" these are prone to packing up they normally advance the fuel pump by a few degrees to aid starting worth a check m8? phil
