Thankfully it gets bored asking you about Wi-fi networks after a week or so. That was irritating but it’s stopped now so all good.

Some owners of focus  have been successful I just seen posted on the focus section, no reason why I shouldn't work on edge.

Factory cars only had 3.0 in Feb build.but still the old f6.1 maps

Found this link in another forum. Input your chassis number to see if there is s Sync update for your car. If there is, download to your computer, transfer to a USB stick then load into the car.  Mine shows as having an update which is approximately 2.8GB so I’ll need to find a memory stick to see if it’ll work

I have no idea if this is an update to sync 3 AND mapping or only the sync 3 software.

Sept 2016 build, Sync 3, v2.0 and it says 'Your software is already up to date, No action required' !! Oh well

What version have you currently got?

Added vehicle build date.

@Edge of Reason, so what's the update your being offered?

Just checked a pile of VIN's that were shipped on the same boat with mine (build dates from August 25th 2016 to October 13th 2016) and none of them come back with available updates!

It just says “A software update is available. Approx 2.8GB”

I’m in the process of downloading to my laptop. It’s a zip file, so I’ll need to unzip it to the USB drive then see what I do next. It’ll probably make no difference, but I’ll update you later. It seems a very long winded process.

Ok. That’s mine updated. Right enough it was not a change to the maps, just updated Sync software.

My car now has Sync version 3.0, build 18025.

2.56 Gb is a large software update, anyone know what has been fixed, added or buggered up ?

Probably lots of buggering up, but haven’t noticed anything just yet. I wish I had taken a photo of the screens before the update, so I could compare.

Well, had my 18k servicing done yesterday.

Conversation with the service manager went:

“now there is a Sync 3 update available will it be done as part of the servicing?”

“no sir, if we carry out the update we will have to charge for it”

“why is that?”

“because we need to download the update from Ford and they will charge us”

“but the download is available free of charge on the internet”

“yes but we must use the official Ford update”

“that is what I have downloaded, from www.Ford.co.uk

“and we will need to have a technician dedicate about an hour to do the update”

“ok, fair enough.  How much is the charge?”

“about £150”  !!!!!!!!!

Talk about filling in gaps in knowledge with utter drivel!

Ian - have you seen any downside or improvements having carried out the update yourself?

Ford connect to the same website, I did the upgrade myself and it took 15 mins..

I've already got the file I just thought I'd see if Ford would do it so if it went wrong the car was in the right place to sort it.

Have you seen any benefit after the update, in other words, is it worth doing?

Not really Jim.  The only thing, which is actually quite annoying is whenever I start the engine, the car tells me it can be updated via WiFi.  I have to cancel the message every time, or it stays on the screen.  Bit of a pain, but it’s only one tap on the screen, so I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.  I think the design of some icons may have changed slightly, but I might be imagining that.  I didn’t take any photos of before, so have nothing to compare against.

No, updates are not done as part of a Service.

“no sir, if we carry out the update we will have to charge for it”

If the update fixes an issue, it will be covered under the Ford Warranty.

“because we need to download the update from Ford and they will charge us”

Cobblers, no, we, they, won't.

“yes but we must use the official Ford update”

True, via IDS.

“that is what I have downloaded, from www.Ford.co.uk

Not true, it's a different update.

“and we will need to have a technician dedicate about an hour to do the update”

Yes, but it could be more, but its covered by the Warranty.

“ok, fair enough.  How much is the charge?”

“about £150”  !!!!!!!!!

It's covered by the Warranty if it fixes an issue.

So, Are you telling me the file I have on my PC for a Sync 3 update that I got from https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support/sync-bluetooth/update#/ is different to the Sync 3 Update that ford would download from what you called IDS?

Really?

Are you telling me there are actually 2 versions of the update out there?  Sorry, but I find it hard to believe.
