Toonami
I asked this question in the Audio & Electronics section at the beginning of the month but with no response so thought I'd try the focus section for some help. I've recently changed my stereo for an after market one. I've managed to find the cable to the USB port in the glove box but have yet to find the microphone cable jack. Can anyone tell me if the microphone has a standard 3.5mm jack and where it is located or do I need to by a new one and replace it.
JW1982
The original Ford microphone is wired directly to the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC (APIM) module. There is no 3,5 mm jack connector. Next to this the original Ford microphone has a completely different impedance than an aftermarket micropone. The original Ford microphone will only work on an aftermarket radio if the particular radio is specifically designed to use the original Ford microphone. I replied to you in that section last Monday. On a JVC cd/radio I installed in our Focus the jack socket was on the back.

Sorry @eddie eastwood I didn't mean to offend but it was not what I was after. I know where the port on the back of the radio is but was after info regarding the microphone cable and how it will plug in to the new radio. @JW1982 provided the answer I was after, thank you. rhyds
For what its worth I was in the same position. I ended up using my head unit's own supplied microphone and clipping under the steering column and running the cable back. Be sure to disconnect the bluetooth/voice control module that's behind the glovebox as well, as apparently if you remove the original Ford radio the unit doesn't switch itself off properly and can cause a battery drain. rhyds
There's a few guides on here regarding the unit like this one However this is what I did: 1: Remove glovebox (there's a fair few screws but it then just pulls out) 2: Above the glovebox is the black box of the bluetooth module. Its held in by one screw but is an absolute ***** to get to. I simply opened the white locking lever and disconnected the wiring plug, leaving the unit in place but not connected.

I replaced my original head unit last year and since then my battery has slowly lost charge for no apparent reason. Fingers crossed the BT module was the culprit.
