Ford Mondeo Start Stop issue

Featured Replies

Hello Folks.

I have very recently bought a Ford Mondeo 2014 Zetec Business Edition 1.6TDCI. It is in lovely condition with only 24K on the clock but has one fault, the stop start system. Not bought from a dealer but bought from a vehicle dismantlers as an unrecorded front nearside cill damage. It was a small dent that has been pin pulled and the FNS wheel replaced as it had a slight buckle and now looks great. Nothing else wrong with it.

I have extensively read the issues around the SS issue. I have bought a Maypole MP7423 electronic smart charger which I had on Friday night and it got to 13.7V but the SS still doesn't work. went for a good drive yesterday and got back today. Just put it back on the charger and the voltage shows 12.2/3 and is charging.

Nothing else is affected. The button in the cabin is unlit every time I start the car but after about 5 minutes it lights up as OFF. All brake pads appear to have loads of meat on them so don't think there is an issue with any brake vacuum. No warning lights on the dash. No fault codes.

Any other ideas?

Grateful for any assistance in this and I appreciate that there have been many threads regarding SS but before I put it into a Ford Garage and/or buy a new battery.

John

Any ideas?

Have you pressed the button to turn it on?

Should come on automatically. The button on the dash is to turn it off.

lots of sensors control the operation of stop start, as the switch iluminates after 5 mins, its detecting afault. clutch sensor, neutrol position sensor, battery monitoring sensor, outside temp sensor, brake vacuum sensor. as you can see it takes a while without diagnostics to find the fault.

what i would check first is the battery monitoring sensor is connected to the battery

Thanks for the above. Will check them tomorrow. Guess the battery sensor is the red wire?

Gave in and have taken it into ford. They had it on their kit and it have diagnosed the s/s module as faulty. About £230 to fix. I can get a used low mileage ss module from ebay, however no one seems to know where it is located. Any ideas?

Anyone know where the module is located?

there is no such thing as a stop start module. post up the link to the ebay item .

just checked ebay items that state stop start module isnt a stop start module, they are dc to dc converters.

263049289701. Ebay item no. Sorry dont know how to share a link.

That is odd then. The Ford diagnostics came up with the fault and there are apparently some on ebay. Is it just a different name for the same thing?

that ebay item is listed as a stop start ecu module. it is infact a dc to dc converter, also know as voltage quality module.

it maintains a set voltage regardless of the alternator charging voltage so that modules and delicate electrical components are not subject to possible high voltages or spikes due to the nature of stop start battery conditioning. charging voltages can vary from 12.2v to 15.2 v.

you need to confirm with ford garage this module is definatly the module at fault.

its located to the right of steering column

Will check tomorrow. Is it easy to access?

no idea, never needed to access one on any ford ive worked on . shouldnt be too bad. look up from the accelerator pedal area and it should be fairly high up.

There is a way to reset the start stop system, once you have fully charged the battery again.

This was in the Focus forum (Phil21185 but you can try on yours too:

Ignition on,

Wait 10 sec

Front fog x 10

Hazard x 3

Wait 10 sec.

Battery light on dash should flash.

it will work on mondeo.

Thanks for the replies.

I have just tried that method (in both 1st and 2nd positions) and it doesnt work. Mine is a mk4.5 if that makes any difference.

the correct way if you want to have a go at reseting battery monitoring, just do as follows

Ign on for 10 secs, press REAR  foglight switch 5 times, press hazzard switch 3 times, wait 10 secs. Battery light flashes. Ign off.

Tried the resets. Doesnt solve the problem (always worth a go). Had a look under the column. Near impossible to see anything. Do you know what needsto be removed to access the item?
