If it went in for an update that is what it would get. They wouldn't look for fault codes if they weren't looking for a fault.

Lots of cars have historical fault codes which are completely meaningless, both of my cars have had fault codes stored every time that I have checked, the cars run fine.

If you take it back and ask them to investigate the misfire and other faults then they will look at the fault codes as part of their diagnosis.

wouldn't it come up though while the car is in for this update? you would think so no? I've been having problems with the car misfiring on and off and white smoke. warning lights on dash ( multiply warnings ) even the fuel gauge said it was empty yesterday and i know it had half a tank of fuel in it. but it slowly re set it self after driving for a while. could this all be down to a tampered dpf? as I've had a garage telling me it needs a new dpf. but not sure if the software has been tampered with and taken off also.

thanks 🙂 appreciate the help

If the update caused an engine fault, that might not happen until you drive it properly on the road, so the garage wouldn't necessarily know at the time.  But now it sounds like you haven't just had the update done?

Misfiring and white smoke is more likely to be injectors.  I think this engine uses a vaporiser for DPF regen so there's no particular reason that a DPF fault should cause an engine misfire.

The fuel gauge issue doesn't sound like it's linked to the DPF either.

With so many faults it looks more like a wiring issue or a faulty PCM than a physical DPF fault.  But I would need to see the exact fault codes showing now to say any more than that.

I have my own Autel scanner thing, will that be enough to bring up the faults? its only a small thing to plug in

That probably won't show Ford specific faults.  But there's no harm in trying it if you already have it.

A colleague was quoted £150 at a main dealer for diagnostics yesterday and she only had one fault with the car. Independent garages will be cheaper than that.
