Auto Heated Rear Screen And Mirror's

Featured Replies

As the title say's, are the heated rear screen and mirror's linked to the frost/black ice detector that light's the snow flake in the dash

Reason I ask is that tonite the window's were abit frosty and with the heater on and before i turned the rear window switch on the window started to defrost after the car was started, as if it was auto feature because of the frost detector

Hope this makes sense

Thank's in advance

I HAVE heard that this is a feature of the Mk 7 front window, with a 30 amp fuse per half, and times-out auto. My Mk 6.5 is on manual select.

Don't recall the front windscreen coming on automatically, but the rear one does and presumably the mirrors. I think it's down to the temperature but not 100%.

I think its dependent on your settings (unless you have climate control) where if you have the dial turned to the windscreen only setting and full heat, the windscreen quickclear automatically comes on if the temperature is below 4C.

Thank's all for the replies

Only have the car 2 week's and last night was the coldest it's been in that time

Rear screen and mirror's seemed only to come on, front screen stayed off

Something to keep an eye on

Thank's again

With climate control fitted pressing the defrost / demist button switches on the front and rear screen heaters at temperatures below 4 degrees but 5 degrees and above only switches the temperature and fan to highest settings. Without climate control the windscreen only button makes the same descisions about when to put the heaters on or leave them off. The windscreen cancels after 5 mins or so and the rear screen/mirrors maybe 10 mins before switching off.
