Featured Replies

My belt shredded and smashed the plug of the crankshaft sensor and I can’t find a wiring diagram that matches the colour of wires on my wiring loom

any help or advice would be very helpful

On my wiring diagram the wires are yellow and violet, green and brown and grey and violet. 20211230_194624.thumb.jpg.0bb9f6bb966286484ce80bc2f0cf4a9c.jpg

Are you sure it's the crankshaft position sensor?

This is where the plug goes and I’m pretty sure this is the crankshaft sensor

Yep, I'd say that's definitely the crankshaft position sensor. So the colours you have are red and brown, red and white and yellow and red?

Yeah them the colours

not sure what I’m looking for

looked online for wiring help but can’t find my colour wires

Having completed several modifications on my Focus I have found that the wiring diagram doesnt always match the colours on my car. Having said that, it's usually just one or two that are different. So I find it odd that all three or these are different. Also, all the different engine types, on my wiring diagram, use the same colours.

Have you traced the wires along the loom to see if they have been joined further up? It might be the case that the previous owner has had the same problem and has use some pins and wires from something else.

Your best bet would be a trip down the scrap yard and see if they'll let you chop off the connection. You can identify which one is the ground/ neutral and then it's a case of trial and error with the other 2.

Thanks for all your help

im gonna have a proper look tmr

I’ll remove the sleeve and look to see if the colours change further up

just curious if I wire it up wrong if it will cause a problem  ?

blown fuse or worse?

I dont think it would blow a fuse. I think you're more likely to get an error code. Your diagram shows No.1 with 5volts, so with a multi meter you should be able to identify this one as well. My guess is that the sensor has a live and neutral (pin 1 & 2) which create a electro magnetic field and pin 3 feeds back to the computer when the field is excited by something on the crank pulley.

Excellent description of a plan of action. I'm working on a 13plate mondeo same issue. Drive belt smacked it up hard. Repair to pins with feral and solder worked. But I should have took pic of wires. I'll use multimeter to get the 5v cable and hopefully the neg too. Leaves the 3rd pin must be signal. No matter wat colours are or have it have now been used.

But I can't find a solid hit on a new plug. Can any1 advise a source please? It's a 1.6 tdci has exact same as in your pic there just different colour wires. Thanks
