hello all, i am the new boy to the group, i like to keep my identity secret as it has an air of mystery about it, but i work with Ford and have done for over 10 years, dont care about the mod side of it all unless it is on a classic like a mk1 escort or anglia, as spend all my day fixing the things! but have loads of tech knowlegde and will be happy to share where i can.

Hi,

If your that good here goes. My cam belt snapped on my mark 4 escort cabby MFI 16 XR3I. I cluched it straight away and stopped. My thoughts on this are that as I have done this and it is old, 8v and petrol it should be ok, what do you think?????

I beleieve this is a free running engine and the pistons should not have hit the valves if it is a 1.6 CVH. Replace the belt and turn it over, if it spins fast or starts to runs rough then toy have hit the valves and lost compression, head off and and pary for the best.
