It's why the recovery companies exist - sometimes it's worth spending the extra £.  Hope you get a good outcome!

i kind of was looking at alternate ways of just getting the garage and got onto silicone tape reviews and one guy who had a hose leak used it and said its lasted forever! so kind of got the impression it may do just get me to the garage, but like your experts are saying makes more sense especially now that we are in a heatwave period and weather wouldn't be on my side in any case

I wouldn't risk a 30 mile trip!  You'll be looking at at least £50 in transport fees though.  Try Shiply or AnyVan for quotes, unless you know of anyone local.

Hey,

My water coolant tank was empty, I filled it up with water yet it got empty again, so I filled up again and drove around parked up went to a shop and when I got out I heard a “hissssss” sound, I thought it was the tyre maybe a puncture however I popped the bonnet open and seen some smoke and realised there was a leak in the coolant tank? Is this a major issue? Will it have an effect on my car if I carry on driving around until I get it sorted? Is this an expensive repair? Thank you

The coolant overflow pipe of my ford ecosport 1 liter ecoboost car broke last day. The vehicle overheated and the message "engine malfunctioned service now" appeared. I immediately called RSA support and they changed its overflow pipe. But the car now has a missfire issue. Has been at the ford india service center for 1 week. The coolant level is decreasing. Has anyone faced this problem?

Just had our 2014 1.0 Eco Boost car break down

No coolant at all in the tank and when i fill up it leaks out slowly

Engine produced a ton of smoke and doesn't start

RAC say minimum is head gasket gone

Got it booked in at local Ford dealers in a weeks time to check if its covered under Field Service Action 4S615 issue

I checked online and our car does not come up but Fords site say if an engine has blown due to a coolant leak they will replace the engine under good support

Has anyone else had the same?

Provided you have had the car serviced at the correct intervals and have proof then you have a fair chance that they will at least cover a major part of the cost.

It would at this stage be reasonable to assume the engine will need to be replaced, as the hamster will have fallen off his wheel and died of heat exhaustion. 😂

Got it serviced but a friend who is a mechanic, no bills

Then sadly I think you will find you're on your own. Ford do have a "special" offer on buying a brand new ecoboost engine but its still going to cost over £4000 for a replacment engine to be supplied and fitted.

Alas, in the old days if a car got a coolant leak and overheated you stood a fair chance of it being ok once the coolant leak was fixed, but the eco boost seems to self destruct in the blink of an eye if it loses the coolant.

Fingers crossed but it seems a harsh punishment for not getting serviced by Fords

I’m a bit late to the party. My coolant hose broke too (the thin one), so I got some 8mm  fuel hose and cut a section and used hose clamps to secure it at each end. Seems to be holding.https://ibb.co/rkZHyfw

Sorry to dredge this up, think I’ve got the same issue. Slowly loosing coolant for the last few weeks, so been checking before every drive. Today I found the coolant empty and the below picture which looks like the obvious culprit. I notice the pipe entry from the coolant tank sits above the “max” level, does this small pipe literally just circulate the coolant *back* into the tank rather than ‘take’ it from the tank?

obviously need the car as it’s Christmas and we are off to see the family. If the local Ford dealer doesn’t have the part could I bodge a fix with some heatproof piping like others have done?

Yes, but that doesn't make it any less critical.  Pressurised coolant will flow out of there at a fast rate if the bodge fails.  Really don't want to lose that pipe at 70mph.  You can bodge it, just make sure it's a good bodge!

Thanks, luckily Ford had a new pipe assembly in so I’m off to try and fit it in a 60mph gale. If I can find some rope to tie open the bonnet…

Fitted the new pipes, topped up coolant. Have ran the car for around 20 mins, a few mins of idle, 30 seconds of 2.5k revs and repeated around 6 times. ECT holding around 83°c after a quick drive, dash temp display bang in the middle, coolant level stable. Is it safe to say I’ve got any air out of the system?

Hopefully.  Though I'd still carry a bottle of coolant on the long drive just in case there's an air bubble that shifts.  The stat may not be open yet if it's only reading 83c.  There may also be some air still in the heater matrix as well.

Thanks for the advice. Appreciated. Think I’ve got very lucky on this one *if* the issue is fixed.
