Insurance: How much is a car worth?

Featured Replies

Hi Gang,

Well it's insurance time again next month and I'm looking at getting an agreed value for my old girl. The thing is they want to know how much my car is worth and to be honest I have no idea. I own a MK1 Mondeo Si 4x4, sure it's no classic like an Escort Mexico but I know they didn't make many, howmanyleft.co.uk currently says 25 exist, 20 SORN and 5 on the road. She has sub 100k miles, is modified with the MCR Millennium Body Kit which is no longer produced, updated her with ST colour coded handles, custom boot install, cat back, yada yada. I'm the third owner since new, owned her now for nearly 13 years just kept her in good shape and tried to keep as close to Ford looking as possible. I'm not saying she's on a collectors radar, just saying if some mum junk on the school run decides to calm her children whilst taking the front off my car I'd be mortified, to me she is irreplaceable, but sadly everything comes down to a price.

I'm always browsing AutoTrader, car junkie to be honest. Not many MK1s about, price range is turbulent, from £2k to the only other SI 4x4 i've seen for Sale which had summit like 20k on the clock, unmolested showroom standard I think was around the £7-8k, mines not that but shows the scope.

How does one "set a price" or even come up with a starting figure?

Cheers.

Hi,

If you need any help with the actual insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line. We should be able to offer an agreed value for this vehicle.

Regards,

Dan.

I'd probably keep it and see in many years if they shoot up on price. I was looking at that website and if it's correct it says my mk6 fiesta zetec s 1.6 TDCi there is only 5 licensed from 2006. I know they are rare but not that much as occasionally I do see some mk6 zetec s on the road however don't know if they are petrol or diesel.

Try using the right tab first. The problem with that website is it doesn't differentiate between the mk6 and mk7. The model you have selected also doesn't include every diesel. If you go on the regular zetec-s it will still have a good chunk of diesels included (click on the engine tab).

The number 6 you refer to is the number of vehicles registered in 2017 that are still on the road in Quarter 4 of 2017. Even then it's not anywhere near accurate enough.

Noticed that, they also don't distinguish between Estate, Saloon and Hatch for the 4x4, they came in all variants.

Cheers all, wasn't trying to sell her just wanted to make sure if someone totalled my car they wouldn't play the "old car" card, at the end of the day so is an Austin A35 lol. Will fill out the forms for insurance and see what they say.
