2011 txs 2.2 auto none starter

Featured Replies

Morning all,

i have a issue with my 2011 2max 2.2 auto, 3 weeks its been off the road.

i got in one morning and it would start no attempt to crank or anything, plugged it into forscan came back tcm has lost communication with everything.

the battery wasn't great so i replaced that, i also replaced the starter as i checked it and it was failing.

after a nightmare of a hunt for a auto electrician or just anyone who would want to work on it finally found one

he has had it a week gone yesterday, he called me on wed to let me know the tcm is now communicating with everything (didn't tell me how he done it although i will find that out).

the car however still isn't attempting to crank over, foot on brake press button lights come on that's it, he has said it could be the brake switch/wiring so i have told him to replace what's needed, i called him yesterday and he hasn't touched it since wed which considering i'm a paying customer and he knows how much i need my car due to working out of town etc i find it quite annoying.

if he does eventually the brake switch etc and it still doesn't try and fire up what could my next steps be as i am half expecting him to not want the job after that

Thanks

Phil

The TCM lost comms could be many things, but unlikely to be the cause of your non start.

Fitting a new battery is a good first step, are there any other faults showing ?

Brake / Clutch switches are not expensive but can be fiddly to access and fit. Note that the switches have different functions so you will need to identify the 'starter' switch. I'm guessing that 2011 year the switch will be a simple on/off so you could bridge it across to check.

The next place I would check is the starter inhibitor on the autobox.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the tcm communication errors could stop it from starting as the car wouldnt know it was in park to start ?.

Im hoping the garage sorts the brake switch out etc and if that doesnt get it started ill be checking other things. The starter inhibitor what does that look like ?

Thanks

All the faults showing where for the tcm loosing communication to the bcm. Pcm etc

The lost comms could be simply due to low battery volts, ideally you need to clear faults, cycle ignition and reread.

Comms error in itself should not stop the start process, unless there was an actual fault. As you will now have discovered one fault can lead to others showing. The starter inhibitor can vary, and a fault here may be the cause of your TCM fault. On yours I think it is on top of the auto-box, it looks like a quadrant with a small slot on the centre where the selector pivots. Some also have a switch next to the shifter. Someone with more experience of your model may be along to help, but you could try google or a Haynes type manual.
