6006E player continually asks for unlock code

Featured Replies

Hi

This is not the usual question about unlock codes that swamp the Net and forums.

I have my 4 digit Keycode Security Number and serial number for my 6006E 6 disc CD Player from my 2001 Mondeo.

My radio has been disconnected for a few years as I replaced it with an Alpine head unit. Now I want to use the unit again.

On power up it asks for the code which it accepts, but immediately asks for the code again after pressing 5.

I know it has accepted the code, and the code is correct because the number of tries indicator stays at 1.

I can continue to put the code in again and again many, many times and it just returns to CODE ----

I also know the code is correct because if I deliberately enter a wrong code, it asks me to enter it again, but this time the number of false tries starts to increment by one for each bad attempt.

As soon as I enter the correct number on my card, the number of tries goes back to 1 again, but it still asks for it to be entered again as soon as I hit 5 to accept.

It's almost as if the unit knows it has seen the correct code has been entered, but can't retain in its memory that it has received it ok.

I presume there is some volatile RAM powered by the permanent 12V that holds onto the correct code, or at least sets a flag to say it has been entered correctly. If so, perhaps somehow this memory has failed or is faulty.

Can anyone confirm my diagnosis, and if correct, is there anything I can do to rescue things?

Many Thanks

Martin

Sounds like the radio has had it .sure you could pick up one on fee bay 😊

I've managed to sort it. It was a poor earth return to the multiconnector (GND top row pin 2) after I refitted it.

Everyone always mentions the need for a low power permanent live (BAT+ top row pin 3) to hold the memory as well as the thick ignition +ve (ACC+ pin 1 top row) ,required to power stuff when in use,  but no mention of their companions  - the extra low power earth return wire (GND top row pin 2) that is also needed in addition to the chunky Earth required to feed the radio when in use.

Many thanks for any replies.
