12v Power outlet on Focus

Ford Focus 13 plate 1.6 diesel edge 

Next to hand break power outlet (with coin slot) and cover 12v on I use to charge phone use gps etc not working can get to work a bit if giggle around but go over a bump and stops again. Used various items same issues. Power there as works a bit so not fuse. Any advice and is it easy to remove and swop out looks pretty worn inside what do I need and can I do myself

Cleaned it out found no difference 

Ordered a replacement anyone know how to get to it and fit please

The cigarette sockets are normally a push fit, on the Mk 2.5 you remove the metal insert which then allows removal of the plastic shroud.

You might find that it is just full of crud. Remove the fuse (or battery negative), and with a small soft wire brush/something abrasive, clean the middle contact in the socket. The reason you remove the fuse/battery lead is so that you don't short the centre pin against the outside of the socket and blow said fuse!

Mine was working intermittently like this, turns out it was full of dirt/coffee remnants from the previous owner (i'd previously found dried coffee remnants/gunk under the centre console). A clean up and working perfectly once again.
