Hunting idle

Featured Replies

Ok so been working on a few issues with the car, to be honest getting a very fed up with it now. But, new issue is this. See video https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qzb684_HFRJ7OCMuvwZSHGR0fj33qTPM/view?usp=drivesdk car seems to start ok then all of a sudden starts hunting ?? Does it every time it's started ?? Any ideas ?? I also have a P02E2 code, related to MAF sensor. It just seems odd as it starts ok then gets worse ?? Currently the PCV valve hose is disconnected and blanked on the intake side, yes the pcv valve is left venting to atmosphere bit I'm trouble shooting at min. It seems to make no odds if it's connected or disconnected and blanked.

Did you remedy this? I have the same fault, egr replaced, throttle and air sensors replaced. Doing my head in

bump from the dead...

i'm having the same problem with mine...

halfway to removing the egr for a clean (160k miles on it), then i read here it doesn't help:laugh:

well..gonna clean it anyway. The gunk in the pipes!!

if i rest my foot on the throttle immediately after engine start,, to just slightly raise the rpm to 950-1050, it stops jerking. If i do this for 20-30 sec, it's mostly fine after...if i let my foot of the gas too early, it continues to jerk...

Since about  a week, i did notice an additional sound in the mornining idle - cracking sound... the best guess would be the alternator, but i'll put my ear on a screwdriver in the morning..... sound like chewed up bearing, but only popping once a couple of seconds... after a while...i stops - in sync with the engine jerking..

could it be the  OAP - pulley?

will do check in short time...

sure would like to come to the bottom of it.

Gosh, he was an active member for 4 years, you gotta wonder what he did that was that bad it warranted a banning! Maybe he bought a VW 🤣

It was much, much worse than that !!

He bought .............. an electric VW and has been sent straight to hell didn't even get to pass 'Go' and collect £200

For now i found nothing except the alternator freewheel pulley has some axial play... not even sure if it's the pulley that has play or the whole shaft...

i guess a little axial play is not a catastrophe...no radial play though. but i could replicate the "crackling" by manually spinning the pulley

Plan on:

- putting an oscilloscope on the alternator...

-getting the injectors checked & cleaned
