Ford Fiesta passenger door won't open from outside

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all,

First post and hope this is in the correct forum to be posting in.

For the last few months (and it appeared to happen after a recent service) - my passenger door won't open from the outside, I have to open the door from the inside. However; once that's happened, the passenger door will be fine until I lock it using the key fob.

Could it be key fob related?

Sorry for the vagueness.

Cheers

I'd possibly check the mechanism there's some videos on YouTube where people remove the door hand and I think there's something in the door you have to put down with a screwdriver before putting the handle back on. Don't know if that might be the problem.

When you lock the door does the inside handles go inwards? On the mk6.5 I know they do that so might ask you if that door which has that problem has that as with mine if I push the driver door handle in when sitting inside it locks the doors on both sides.

sounds like it could be the central locking solenoid inside the door or the wiring to it.

If I understand you correctly the key fob locks and unlocks the drivers door but only locks the passenger door, it does not unlock passenger door.

actually thinking about it as I type, on my car (2015 fiesta) if I press key fob once it only unlocks the drivers door, it I want it to unlock all doors I have the press the key fob twice in quick succession. It's designed like that. It can be altered to unlock all doors on one press but I can't remember how, I know it is in the instruction book somewhere.

Hold the lock and unlock buttons on the fob down together until the indicators flash. Car should then unlock with one press.

I am also having this issue.

It started when I took the handle off to paint it. The little metal pulley that the door handle uses, was jammed by a bit of plastic. I resolved this small issue yesterday by breaking it off and now I have put the handle on and can open the door again.

I am still unable to open the passenger door until I have unlocked it from the inside. Once it has been unlocked from the inside, it can be used until locked again. I will keep looking and trying for a solution and let you know how to fix it (if possible).

I did have a look at how much it would cost to replace the mechanism, but it is way too expensive.

I have tried this, but it did not work for me. It did flash and I heard my indicators too. I did read somewhere that when you unlock the car (first press), only the driver door and boot are unlocked, but you press again to unlock the passenger door (never had to do this before). In order to get all of the doors to unlock first time, you do this.

What age vehicle is this? If it's the new shape fiesta there have been issues with the latches causing this exact issue

Hi, I have found a fix for this.

1) Open the door from inside

2) Take first panel off the door

3) disconnect the inside handle from rear of panel

4) reconnect the inside handle BUT, the inside handle needs to be pushed in as if it was locked, and connect it whilst like that.

let me know if it helped, it worked for me.

I have had this issue again recently. I have found another fix (kind of).

1) Open door from inside

There should be a tube from the car frame to the door make sure this is as tight as possible, I have taped it up because it kept getting loose and has been fine since.

Have a similar issue. Can't unlock front passenger door from outside.

Did the press together and indicator thing but front passenger door still locked on both presses.

Any other fixes without taking off door panel?

On your keyfob press open and lock keys simultaniously and hold for 3 seconds. This will return your fob to open all doors with one click. Alternately, leave it as it is and click your fobs open button TWICE to release all doors.
