Hi,

Ok so not sure if there is information already about so if someone knows please point me in the right direction. So I was on my way to work Tuesday and on the motorway power dropped engine malfunction service now came up. After 4hours waiting at service was towed home. RAC guy diagnosed an injector stuck open as it was missing on 2 and lots of fuel coming out through my exhaust. Various codes from odb. My question “he final says” is if I am going to replace the injector on 2 do they need programming into the ecu or are they already programmed ready to install? Petrol 1.0 ecoboost focus2012 btw

 hope someone can help cheers

The replacement injector will need to be programmed or should I say installed on the ECU

Theres an actual numerical code on the injector which is then typed in to the computer which tells the ECU the new injector exists much like installing a printer or disc drive on a windows computer.

Most good independent garages can also programme injectors

Also if this has bee  a long term issue; then the catalyst and lambda sensors may become affected from the excess fuel and oil..... just saying mate

The problem happened only this Tuesday so hopefully won’t have affected the cat etc, my problem would be getting the car to a garage now as it’s sat outside my house and I was hoping I could get the part and fit it with my father. Is the install to the ecu something that can be done with an f-super 2 and laptop? Or alternatively can you get the injectors with the same numeric code as the one you’re replacing?

I'm not sure if you could programme it using a normal OBD device, but the car may operate in a sort of limp mode with the new injector fitted until it's been programmed which would allow you to drive to get programmed.

Most garages would have a laptop; if you or your dad know a mechanic; they could easily call out and do the software job after you and your dad installed.

The catalyst wouldn't be affected in such short time, but I've saw cases where people have ignored leaking injector issues for six months or longer until the lambda sensor in the exhaust instigated limp mode then the catalyst fails on MOT inspection, but thankfully none of that applies to you.

No problem also take a picture of the code on the new injector using your phone to show the person doing the software as an "O" owe may be a "zero" and such 👍

Happy to help,

You can code them in using Forscan to save you getting hold of a proper diagnostic reader.
