Spare Key(s) for Mk3 Focus

Featured Replies

G'evenin all , every time I step on a water gulley grid on the street (usually with car/house keys in hand) I'm reminded that I need to get a spare key sorted as my Black Beauty only came with one key .

I've been quoted €90 at my local main dealer for a Transponder key and €350 for a 3 Button remote key (programming included for that €350 if I recall correctly) . Then I went looking online and found this firm in UK ...

Has anyone here ever used them or know anyone that has ?

Thanks in advance if I don't reply to you before tomorrow .

I don't know this company but you still need to get the transponder in the key programmed. If you had two working keys (by working this means keys that disarm the immobiliser) them it is relatively easy to program the transponder chip in a new key. But if you only have one, you can not easily program a second key.

Programming the transponder chip is different from the relatively easy programming the buttons on the key. People often get these two totally different procedures confused.

Does the 90 euro for a transponder key include programming the transponder chip on the basis that you only have one key at present?

Yes I think it does , been a while since I enquired about it .

Hello

I've done it for my mk2 with a key bought on amazon.

Seems to be the same type of key!

If you want to do it yourself you need a good OBD2 device (I recommand usb device), a full version of forscan (free software) and a working key.

First have the key engraved and you can find then 2 tutos on forscan website to check if the transponder's key is allright to be programmed, and program the key in your car.

The operation is stressfull (because everythig can happend), but finally easy.

The total cost for me was about 65€ (55£) to get a good working key and a good OBD device! 30€ just for the key and engraving.

Forscan can not program Focus MK3/MK3.5 transponder keys!

From the Focus MK3 onwards Ford enhanced the protection of the PATS immobilizer system. This new generation of the PATS immobilizer system no longer uses the old Outcode/Incode protection. Instead it requires authorized access to the online Ford FDRS system.

Apart from cloning existing keys (which many car locksmiths can do) the Ford dealer is basically the only one who can program new keys.

Thank you for the answer and the information. I wasn't aware of this, my bad!

And that's the way dealers want to keep it methinks , thanks JW . €90 it is then . On another note the remote keys don't seem to wear well in appearance compared to my old MK2 key .
