Ford Focus 1.6 LX Auto PCM Problem

Hi there.

I was coming back from my mothers the other day. (not that it matters where I was coming back from). As I was driving  along transmission fault came up I rang the AA up and they said your PCM has failed. the car will drive but only in 1st and 2nd anyway it was loaded on the back of a recovery truck the car was taken to my local garage who do electrical as well as that was who was advised by the AA at the time. The have come back that for once the AA was right and it was a PCM fault and I then requested it to be sent off for testing and they said they was right as well it is the PCM that's faulty.

I have picked up a PCM automatic module which is the one that's faulty from a local scrap yard this morning. but the garage has said you can not just plug it on and it will work.. it needs to be programed but you can not use a 2nd hand one it needs to be brand new and the garage having got IDS or something to program one anyway..

does anyone know if this is the case

if it can be is there anyone who can program it if so how much.. ??
