Sprucing up my Focus

Featured Replies

Hi - First time poster here

OK, so after a good bit of hunting around, I am thinking about putting in a Pumpkin stereohttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Pumpkin-Android-Bluetooth-Support-Fast-boot/dp/B07FKP6JJ1/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=pumpkin+android&qid=1557825407&s=gateway&sr=8-18 but i'm now questioning if my set up is focus mk2 or 2.5, i'm not really sure of the difference but if anyone can advise if this would work, or have a better option?

Secondly, I am considering another first, and wrapping the gear surround, stereo fascia and the small (demister) section below. Would you recommend also doing the silver dial (rev / speed) surrounds, air vent edges and silver parts on the steering wheel? - New to this and want the car to blend nicely rather than look stupid. I have been looking at the 3D Carbon, so again, if anyone can advise of a better product or advise, (I would rather have matt than gloss) please feel free - and thanks!

Your car is the facelift, also known as Mk2.5.  The stereo in the older versions is totally square, instead of having rounded corners like yours does.  I can't give any recommendations on Android stereos though.

As for the wrapping, just start with the bits you want to do and see how it looks.  Don't use cheap wrap inside though, it all lifts in the heat of the sun lol.

I've just bought the Eonon unit. The internals will be exactly the same (8 core CPU with 4gb RAM) but just the name on the front will be different. I paid £220 off Ebay rather than £300 on Amazon for the same unit.

It's dead easy to install, all just plug and play. To get the basics going is literally 10 minutes start to finish. Only reason I spent longer was installing the mic, WiFi, DAB tuner etc. You can also buy a USB socket like this to replace a cigarette lighter socket so you can plug your phone straight into the unit. Just looks a bit neater than having the USB extension cable dangling inside the glovebox or out the front of the dash etc.

I'd decide on what colour you're going to turn the silver into before ordering a head unit as a black unit would look silly with the silver trim and vise versa.

The trouble is with a Matt finish on interior trim is it always just looks like someones took a rattle can and botched it. If they do get a decent/even finish, it just looks cheap and plasticky. I love the glossy carbon fibre effect on the dash in my ST(example pictured below).

Thanks Luke4efc, your trim is exactly what i've been looking at all day, carbon looks lovely and it doesnt look too shiny. Would love to see a pic with the Eonon installed - your picture is exactly what i've been googling for all day. Which Eonon did you go for? Was it the GA9162B with Android 8? - Many thanks

I got the generic pumpkin stereo and a face plate, I really like the stereo, boots instantly.

If any help here's the stereo and face plate I got.

Stereo: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07BKRGZS1 (looks like they have a newer version with Android 9 now)

Face plate: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0132TYPQK

Can I ask why you went with this model over the https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pumpkin-Android-Bluetooth-Support-Fast-boot/dp/B07FKP6JJ1/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=pumpkin+android&qid=1557998117&s=electronics&sr=1-11 ?

How was the installation - did need any additional connectors? I am hoping to order in the next week - Still not sure between Pumpkin and Eonon

I ordered mine early June 2018, looks like that one was released just after in July otherwise I suspect I might have gone for it. I guess being able to put the standard one in another car is a small bonus if you think its possible you would take the stero with you on changing cars.

Fitting is easy, for the stero itself its just 4 screws, removing some of the plasic trim to place the GPS etc for me was the slightly scary part (I also fitted a reversing camera).
Only addtional connector I needed was an ISO adaptor, I also have not got a canbus for the stalk controls (I assume if you go for the model specifc one you wont need either anyway).
