2011 mk3 Instrument Cluster fault?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, new member, first post. We have a mk3 2011 focus 1.6 petrol 105PS. Yesterday on our way home we had a sudden drop in power, followed by a loss of the speedo, and an ABS light along with the Traction Control light on the dash. Also feels like the power steering got heavy, then later the yellow engine warning light came on. Having had a mk1, mk1.5 and a mk2 we’re very familiar with the common instrument cluster faults on the older models. Is it also a common problem with the newer mk3’s? Is it likely to be the cluster? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Clusters aren't a common failure on the Mk3 like the earlier models, although they can still sometimes fail.

That's a weird selection of faults for the cluster though.  First thing I'd check is the battery - low battery causes lots of odd issues on these, especially heavy PAS and ABS & TC lights.  As the engine light came on, there should also be a code stored if you have a code reader, but that could be a red herring if it's a battery issue.

Thank you for replying. I was literally driving along a dual carriageway as all these things happened. Is it still possible it’s the battery? I’d also just been on a journey an hour each way and was nearly home. But I guess if the battery is on its way out, it wouldn’t charge efficiently?

Battery or alternator issue

Hmm. Seems like it’s either the battery/alternator or speed/abs sensor....?

Hey. So just heard back from local garage. Turns out it was the ABS sensor. But the battery isn’t 100% healthy either. Thanks to those who took the time to read my post.
