How to check which model focus

Featured Replies

I am going to look at a 2005 1.6 Zetec Focus tomorrow. Thanks for the common faults thread, it's very useful. The one issue I have is that I don't know which Mk it is. How do you tell the Mk1, Mk1.5 and Mk2 apart? It does appear to have the oldest type 6000cd in it but having read the swapping heads thread I can see that this is not always an indicator.

2005 should only be MK2 unless very late registered.  MK1.5 looks completely different and is physically much smaller, you can't confuse the 2 as it's a totally different car, not just a facelift.

The Mk 2 was introduced late 2004 but run-out versions of the Mk 1 (or Mk1.5 if you like as it was the facelifted version by then) were still on sale into 2005 (my brother in law bought one then).

The Mk 2 is noticeably larger than the previous version, and lacks the pronounced wheel arches of the Mk 1. A quick look at something like Wikipedia will show you comparitive pictures.

Ah Wiki, should have thought of that. My investigations show Mk1 went to 02/2005.

Looks like a late registered Mk1, boot release button is central below number plate.
