Changing the heater controls.

Featured Replies

Is it possible to change the heater controls from the basic to the facelift one? I have bought a facelift centre console which looks like it'll fit but the connections in the back are very different. Is there a website that identifies the pins on the connections?

Nope.
The facelift controls are purely electrical connectors whereas the original ones are mostly mechanical.

Not sure what you mean by mechanical. There's only electrical connections coming out the back on both units.

Apologies, couldn'y see your full post as it's a terrible phone signal where I am currently and some of the pictures didn't load.

I did wonder this. Prefer the digital mk3 ones than the 3.5 buttons though

The centre console fits in really well and looks really smart (especially with my Sync 2 retro fitted (80% working) thanks to Luke Anderson's guide). I was thinking I could chop the plugs from a donor car and solder across the wires. I'd need the connection diagrams for both units though. Anyone know where I could get the diagrams?

Thanks for the connection diagram mate. This now explains why my gps is not working. Thought I was tapping into the ms can (as in Luke's guide) grey/Orange and purple/orange on the heater panel. But by the looks of your diagram, there is no ms can on my panel. Don't suppose you know where else I can find the ms can?

Luke is correct. I’ve not got a diagram for that blue plug.

What you connecting with? Scotch locks? Have you double checked you have the right pins in your sync plug. I had a nightmare by mixing up a white with grey for a grey with white. Not everything is working. Miles better than sync 1

I had a bit of a nightmare to be honest. All day in the car in the baking sun, ***** sticky fingers from the loom tape. I misread Luke's instructions and wired the GPS and the button controls into the mm Can. The stereo would just keep shutting itself down saying it was in power saver mode. Last night I reread the guide and realised what I'd done. So today I've swapped them to the (what I thought) were the right wires. Although the purple and orange looked more brown  than orange. The stereo works now, although I still don't have gps. But now I know that I've not gone into the ms can. I've soldered all my joints and used heat shrink. The wires are too small for scotch locks, in my opinion.

Least your getting there. I was ready for selling the car. I’ve just scotch locks and was fine. Red ones so were small enough. I had no ms can, no steering controls and no hub function. Lol. I’ve just got to test the rear cam before fitting and I’m done

So did you pick up the ms can? And if so, where did you get it from. I also had no usb hub (saying no Nav). I had joined the usb cables that came with the hub. I found a couple of the mini usb cables kicking around and joined them with a usb to usb and hey Presto it's working. I also put my hub in the glove box for two reasons. 1. You don't have to extend the cables to reach to the sync unit. 2. I could see coke getting spilt on it if I put it in the centre console.

That’s not a bad idea. The cables in the blue plug like in Luke’s guide. If you have connected them by solider and still nothing I’d check your plug. I honestly thought I was careful and wouldn’t make a mistake as simple as I did. I wrote everything down. Was only when I checked everything again I spotted my mistakes. The row that has number 54 in I had that the wrong way round. So will be something simple. As Luke said to me. Don’t give up lol

Unfortunately,  I don't have the blue plug in the back of my heater controls. I've been studying the wiring diagram but I can't find anywhere where I can tap into the ms can. I'm beginning to suspect I have no ms can in my car as it is the most basic. I think I'll start a new topic and ask.
