@Lenny I think both of you guys are really busy with work hence the vague conversations you probably been having. 

No offence and I don't know your friend but someone who is earning all that money and letting the wife pay the mortgage I'd let them get the parts. Did he say he'll give the money he'd get from selling the bulbs? 

I think my mum would hate me if I told my wife to pay the mortgage and I'm saving my money and have a bigger salary then her 😂.
