Mk3 1.6 TDCI do they eat clutches?

Featured Replies

Having my gearbox rebuilt and the garage have asked when I last had the DMF and clutch replaced as its full of clutch dust. They don't do clutches themselves, so I'm guessing they aren't trying to rip me off. I only had the flywheel and clutch and associated bits and bobs replaced by FORD 20k ago, so I'm concerned that I'll need to drop more money into the car in the next 12 months.

I read there's a firmware update, but I would assumed being serviced by ford, it would have been given all updates as standard.

So I've heard.  When I bought mine with 100k on the clock it had gone through 2!  Could be down to the driver I suppose but I think I remember @TomsFocus mentioning something to me once about the clutches on these.  Correct me if I'm wrong Tom!

Recently had my DMF fail with 46k on the clock.  Garage converted it to a single mass flywheel.

Yes, both the clutches and gearboxes are weak on the MK3 1.6TDCi.  DMFs not so much.

The clutch slip recall only affected the EcoBoosts with 6sp gearbox originally, I think some of the 1.5 TDCis have now been included but the 1.6 TDCi never was as far as I remember. You can check for any outstanding recalls on ETIS.
