2012 Fiesta - Loose centre console

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I have noticed that the centre console is loose by the rear cup holder. I had a look at the two screws on either side behind the driver and passenger seats, and they don’t seem to tighten - they just spin indefinitely.

I removed the screws and it looks like there is nothing for them to actually screw into to secure the console, but there are two plastic sockets (one per side) that don’t seem to do anything.

Am I being stupid and missing something obvious here? Any help would be great!

Here’s a photo of the plastic screw and locking nut. Every video or guide that I have seen so far seems to show a proper metal screw with a torx head that I assume actually screws into something to hold the read of the centre console tight.

Those aren't a brilliant design tbh.  The idea is that the sides of the larger part splay out when you push the screw in which locks it tightly without needing to weld a captive nut into the bodyshell (quicker, cheaper production).  After they've been removed once or twice they can get loose though, especially if the threads have been stripped by overtightening as well.  Good news is they should be cheap to buy if you can buy them individually.

They're called Scrivets.

I’ll see if I can get some new Scrivets then! Thanks for the info Tom and Stoney.
