Ford Fiesta 1,3 - 2007 (electrical problems)

Featured Replies

Warning! I am writing this through Google Translate... 😉

I have a Ford Fiesta 1.3 - 2007.
I have owned the car for almost five years and have been very pleased with it.

About two weeks ago my problems began.
It began with the warning light for the air bag being lit and switched off and on.
However, this did not happen every time I drove with the car but only occasionally. Every time the lamp was lit I noticed that all the meters died (speed, fuel, temperature and speed). This lasted just a few seconds, then they came to life again!

A week later, on the way to work, the temperature gauge suddenly showed maximum temperature. I stopped and looked under the hood but there were no sign of the engine being to hot. After this event, the temperature gauge lived its own life, it jumps up and down whether the engine is cold or hot.
While all this happens, the idle has become really bad. It runs between 400 rpm to 1200 rpm.

What I've done:

1. I cleaned all the ground contacts in the engine compartment that I could find.
2. I bought a new battery

3. Checked the fuses behind the glove compartment
4. I have borrowed my father's OBD2 reader (ELM 327 v1.5 bluetooth) and tried to get error codes. Although I downloaded and tried five (!) different apps, the reader can`t connect with the car's ECU!
In other words, I cannot read any error codes.

Even if possible to drive the car I will not, I do not trust it.

 Please help!
