Round-up of the Fez rivals which were unveiled...

Audi A1

Don't really like the idea of a shoestring Audi myself but it looks pretty good. Expected to start at around 13k.

Engines - 1.6 TDI with 89 and 104bhp, 1.2 TFSI with 85bhp and a 1.4 TFSI developing 120bhp.

Citroen DS3 Racing

33101013370.jpg

1.6 197bhp! Quite expensive though, expected to cost £18.5k and will probably fall apart quicker than it will go from 0-60!

Nissan Micra

Dull as dishwater in my opinon. No matter how good a Micra was, I could never own one, purely because of the reputation that they've built up over the years for being a granny mobile. Will have choice of 2 1.2 litre three pots, normally aspirated with 80bhp or supercharged with 100bhp.

Skoda Fabia vRS

car_photo_303004_7.jpg

1.4 twin superchargers! 180bhp! 0-60 in less than 7.3 secs, 44.1bhp on the combined cycle, apparently will cost less than £16k.

VW Polo GTI

222101044124111600x1060.jpg

1.4 TSI, 177bhp. 0-60 in 6.9secs. Looks delightful if a little dull maybe.

Renaultsport Clio Gordini

Renault-Clio-25210101236437281600x1060.jpg

Snazzier looks, same 2.0 197bhp engine, £18k estimated. I don't really think that the new clio looks very nice. The 'mouth's' too big and fishy, like a basking shark.

Sources, Mainly Whatcar and Autocar if anyone cares.

What does everyone think? Any of these sway you away from your Fiestas?

The Polo is nice form the front, was gonna test drive on after the Fez but the interior was so unbelievable dull I didn't waste my time.

The Micra will be crap no matter what and I will never buy one.

The only ones there I would consider would be the Citroen for the design or the Audi for being an Audi...

I like the polo in a boring kind of way, but I absolutely love the look of the DS3. Probably crap, but if it drives as well as it loks, it'll be an awesome car

Yeah, the DS3 does look cool as hell, not sure about the orange detailing though! Apparently the 'racing' production models will all get that as standard!

The A1 looks good from the front but I'm still not sure about the side profile or the back, still bet it will be a massive moneyspinner for Audi though.

I've always thought the DS3 looks fantastic, but I would be worried about it's reliability. The rest just don't appeal to me, they all look dull and not much design flair. I think when I take back my Fiesta in 3 years time I will be looking to get something like the Scirocco.

Small Audi look's nice, can't say too much about the baby Aston based on the Toyota IQ :o

out of any of those id have the polo GTI. I was contemplating getting an '06 1.8t at one point!

Audi looks ok ... But saw a picture of the rear once and didn't like it at all. Nice inside as well but it only has 4 seats. Who wants an Audi with just 4 seats?!

Polo looks OK.

But, never thought I'd say this ... But my fave out of that lot is the Skoda. I think it looks fab! B)

Who wants an Audi with just 4 seats?!

The same people who want a Mini?

The same people who want a Mini?

Excuse my ignorance, I had no idea a Mini had 4 seats. Never been in one. Learn something new everyday I guess.

TBH looking though that little lot just makes me more confident that I chose the right car in the form of my Fiesta.

They're mostly bland and/or ugly and whats left (probably the Clio) aren't my cup of tea as they say.

Really don't see what all the fuss is about with the DS3. Yes its different and no-one could call it bland, but its not exacly pretty....especially in those colours!

Oh, and it looks alot like a van from some angles - lovely.

...but it only has 4 seats. Who wants an Audi with just 4 seats?!

The middle rear seat in most small cars is next to useless for adults and I think I was at Uni the last time I had 5 people in my car.

Atleast they're being honest that a 5th seat won't fit, rather than trying....its like rear seats in a 2+2 - only suitable for children and people who've had both legs amputated.

I don't think i will partake in this discussion, it might end up with me being chucked off the forum...!

Why's that then?

A1, DS3, Polo... :wub::wub::wub::wub:

that DS3 is a car i want to see on the road! really like the looks of it, but having said that just cos i really love it now, i wouldnt swap my fez for any of them!

Hmm its weird, becaue the A1 from the back looks pretty bibbly and bad, the DS3 isreally of the time and will age very badly, and when I was choosing what new car to go for had a test drive in teh Polo, it was nice, btu the rear is ugly too, and I nearly fell asleep with the usual stunningly boring interior, im not sure what people see in them.

Completely agree with what you said about the DS3, as do many car magazines.

The car looks great now, but in 5 years time? Still look good, but dated. Much like the Alfa GT

I thought you had to already own an Aston martin before they let you buy one? Unless Top Gear is pulling my leg again.

Seems to be correct - existing owners will be invited to buy one. Arses.

Yeah that's right. But they're going to open it out to the general public much later on (like anyone would buy it...)

Paying £20k+ for a car that looks like the inside of "that dodgy neighbour"'s cellar isn't high on my list

The 'Aston Martin' Cygnet is one of the most hideous, pointless cars I've ever seen and that includes the Fiat Multipla and Ssangyong Rodius.

I bet the only reason they've done it is to comply with some regulation or something. "Oh look, the average CO2 output over our range has fallen by 100g/km, how enviromentally friendly are we!"

Gold star to that man. Of course its environmental tosh!

Its not going to do them any favours with their client al. £20k is affordable for far more people than £120k, they're going to be riddled with tangerine trollops wanting one of "dem astin marvin cute cars"

Oh God I never thought about that! There's going to be a queue of them outside every tanning salon and vintage boutique in Essex! :D

"I gots one of dem baby duck cars babes!"
