Intermittent stalling & power loss after going up a long steep hill.

Featured Replies

Hi There

Hoping someone may be able to help with this strange issue.

I have just purchased a 2005 MK6 Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 petrol (Duratec).

It starts with no issue & idles perfectly hot or cold.

Power delivery through all gears is good & as expected. However... I have driven up some steep hills with good pulling power only to get near the top or over the top of the hill & the engine suddenly loses a lot of power.

It struggles as if it is not getting any air or fuel & stutters. No dash lights come on & when planting the accelerator it struggles to increase revs whereupon it eventually gets to 3000 revs & suddenly picks up again.!?

I have just replaced the air intake filter & fuel filter. The first run out after the filter change was fine but on the second & third run since the same problem exists.

I'm now thinking it could possibly be the fuel pump.?

Anyone here had the same problem.? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks ☺
