Mk7 1.5 TDCI - EGR / Turbo Warnings

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Googled this a lot. Can't find it. Struggling to get a garage to diagnose the issue.

63 plate Mk7 1.5 TDCI engine. Had "Engine Malfunction, service now" come up and the amber service spanner. Restarting the engine cleared it. Garage said ignore it if it's a one off. It continued to happen but the garage couldn't find the problem. Eventually this became a permanent light, and it was joined by an amber ECU light as well. The car is stuck in limp home mode. OBD2 codes are -

P02E0 - Diesel Intake Air Flow Control Circuit/Open - https://www.autocodes.com/p02e0_ford.html

P02E9 - Diesel Intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit High - https://www.autocodes.com/p02e9_ford.html

Garage cleaned out the EGR value, and eventually replaced it, but the problem still remains. It has suggested that the turbo charger needs replaced, or the problem is electrical. But nobody seems to be able to give me an answer, other than "keep driving it until it gets worse". The car still runs and drives alright apart from the lack of power from being in limp home mode. It starts fine every time, gives me the dashboard lights and carries on.

Separate issue - the steering has started squealing. Most google results suggest low power steering fluid, but the power steering is electric. It only occurs when the wheel is on very light lock (1-10 deg to the right). And it's a high pitch squeal rather than a grind of clunk or whatever. I'm thinking suspension lubrication?

Thanks for any replies.

Why is the garage looking at egr, and replacing when they should be looking at the throttle body and connection.?

High pitched squeal could be the aux belt slipping due to load on alternator when steering motor drawing high current flow.

No idea why the garage is looking at the EGR. I assumed they know more than me. You think the throttle body is a more appropriate place to be looking?

The steering is only under very light load. You can steer through it and it stops. It’s significantly louder with the window open which made me think suspension.
