Fiesta TDCI 55 plate trouble starting

Featured Replies

Hi all!

To date I've spent just over £1000 on this car (hand down from my parents).

Recently, it's been having issues starting first thing. Even when it's not cold (like 8 degrees and above). Today I failed to start it at all and it was 4 degrees out.

Glow plugs were replaced 2 years ago, I've changed the glow plug relays. I've noticed there's no glow plug light that pops up on the dash when I start the car (not sure if it ever did!). I checked the voltage of the battery through the Ford 'secret' menu and says 12.3v at 61 degrees engine temp.

This car is causing me so many issues, I just hope this isn't as bad as the others I've had to deal with!

Just wanted to get peoples opinions before spending more money at a garage!

Very common is the fuel pipes leaking air in near the primer pump . Next time it won't start, open bonnet and squeeze the primer pump around 20 times, if air has got in, that will prime the fuel through the hp fuel pump. Then it should start not long after cranking a little. If no change then it's not that at fault.

I've charged the battery to fully charged and the volts flicker between 12.5 and 12.4. Tried the fuel pump and it started but rough idles. I've had the fuel lines and pump replaced a couple years back.
