Reliable?

Featured Replies

I have a 5 1/2 year old Fiesta Ecoboost, which until the end of last year was trouble free. It has only done about 35k miles so has hardly been used by some standards. However, since the end of last year I have had the following issues:

- Failed heating resistor

- Difficult to get into 5th gear

- Failed handbrake, the lever needs replaced as it is next to impossible to release

The total cost of these repairs is not high, about €500 and one was covered under the now expired warranty. However, I am wondering is this normal with a Fiesta after 5 years and do things start to go downhill rather quickly?

Cheers,

Rod

I have a 1.6 fiesta Titanium and i had that 5 years October, its a 2011 and had it from ford when it was 3 years old and was mint,i do around 2 to 3k a year and very local and only on 29k and i have to say it's been trouble free, had the cambelt kit and pump done as 7 years old and A1,it gets serviced every year but never ford as i want a good service not a Ford stamp as a good Garage is way better and still use ford parts or better.

Thanks, I may keep the non-Ford service tip in mind. While I have no complaints regarding the actual work done so far, the customer service attitude where I am using right now is poor.

The ford service side is up to the person but i have seen how basic to the book they have to be and been all through that, some people say ''Genuine service history'' thinking it's been done better but i don't think that's the case, good Garage does it way better and treats your car with pride,i use a family run garage and been going for years and its got great reviews.

A little story....Going back a good  7 years or more i had a clutch cable snap on my MK6 fiesta and AA came and the car went to a garage to be done, asked the driver.

What is the make car you have to go to for problems, and he said Vauxhall (this is true) and the least he said Honda cars.

Jace1969, thanks for your message. I can vouch (indirectly) for Honda. My father has owned them, along with Toyota on/off for years. In both cases they worked like clockwork till the body work gave out (Scottish weather). Recently he had a Vauxhall, at the start no problems at all. In the end through it was useless, the gearbox kept packing up. So that car was pensioned off.

If you are interested a site I find very useful for reliability metrics is the one below which is based on used car data. It doesn't give you the severity of any problems, but is in my view one of the more objective site.s

Just in case people are curious, the overall cost of the repairs in the end was €500. About half of this was not down a defect but a smart retouch on the seriously scratched bumper. The remaineder for a new handbrake and adjusting the slightly messed up gear box. Overall in my view given the costs of the country I live in not so much.
