Focus front speaker / sat nav/ phone problem

Featured Replies

Have the exact same issue.

70plate focus estate ST Line, less than 400miles has intermittent front speakers.

They cam on briefly after leaving the car locked up for best part of 2 hrs.

Problem started this morning 17/12/20 no sound from the front speakers, no voice guidance from sat nav and when using the audio fader setting full front there is no sound from the front at all and a fraction of sound from rear.

Used the diagnostic test on the dash as detailed above but could not see a way of testing speakers. Apperantly previous modles have had a diagnostic through the sync screen. Couldnt find this on our model.

Ford dealership contacted and booked in.

Ford representative on the phone said this wasn't a fault they have heard of before but this thread and a few others suggest otherwise.

I had this issue today, I managed to get the front speakers working again by pressing the red SOS button, when i did that the audio immediately kicked in at the front, you can cancel the call before it even begins ringing the emergency services by pressing the hang up button on the steering wheel. Whether or not the issue will come back, only time will tell, I'm just glad that (in my case) it seems to be just a software issue.

The same with me today. I did what you suggested and worked. It seems there is a problem with the emergency call.

Same issue here with a Kuga 3 (MY 2020). The SOS button does the trick (temporarily). Latest SYNC update (20282) did not fix this issue for me (I lost the front speakers right after restarting the car when the update completed). Last time I went to my dealer (I live in France), they said an update in end January 2021 would fix this issue...

Just picked a new Kuga, same problem no sound through front speakers. Never realised this was a problem as I’m on my 3rd car with B & O. Wish I’d checked the forum before contacting the dealer to make aware. S.O.S trick worked but for how long I don’t know. Pretty rubbish on a day old car of you ask me!

So apparently according to my colleague who has same issue on new Kuga he was told a new software update was due soon.

Might be worth installing the new sync updates that just been installed and do master reset.

I have this problem with my 2019 focus st line. The standard models have a safety feature on them which stops certain volumes playing out of select speakers so they don't blow in use. If its the B&O system you have doing this then there will be a fault somewhere. Use the speaker settings on "all seats" or "surround" for the best results

Just picked up a new kuga 2 days ago and the same issue. Emergency call tricked solved for now, but will see how long it will last. Will report the fault to the deal tomorrow in case they eventually need to replace the modem. Based in Latvia

Having same issues on a 21 plate focus. Intermittent loss of front speakers. Affects the hands free and voice guidance on the sat Nav. I also had this on my 69 plate focus and was hoping that the fault would have been resolved on my new one.  Fix still not here apparently, poor from Ford

I have the same issue of a loss of the right hand front door speaker and tweeter, what I notice is when in reverse the tone of the reverse alert goes squeaky / screeching to what it is normally. I do a master reset and all is good, its totally psychotic!! I am on 3.4.21198, so Ford have not resolved in this update

Finally, I find a group to share my frustrations about this issue... 🙂 It is very disturbing when navigator is needed. I bought my Focus in October 2019 and since about one year ago I had this issue, randomly. I took my car to two ford dealers (in Belgium) four or five times while car warranty and they looked me like a pain in the ***** client... It seems to me they were not aware of this known problem (if so, unbelievable that knowledge Ford database does not exist or is underused) unless they wanted to hide it.

To the point. I do confirm that pressing emergency button workaround works, thanks!!! I did this morning and front speakers suddenly worked. Not sure how long this workaround will last.

Last time visit to the dealer, I strongly complained, providing videos and showing them through balance speaker function that front speakers did not work properly. They took it a bit seriously and they updated all different piece of software to the last version (this happened in mid of June 2021). Since then I had no issue so the last update seemed reliable till.....last week the issue happened again, OMG. I think the issue happened again when I connected my android phone to USB port, mode silence ON. That's my feeling, the issue happens when connecting the phone USB or bluetooth, possibly when mode silence ON, that's my guess.

My two cents...

The problem here is the modem that freezes some times . It's like the tv boxes that sometimes freezes and have to reboot.

My feeling is that there's no way to fix it . Consider it as a "personality characteristic" of the car 😁

As long as the emergency button fixes it , we're good .

For the record , i own an active focus mhev for one year now and it only happened twice

Hello guys, has this issue with the front speakers/emergency call problem been resolved by Ford? It's been happening with my SMax, very annoying. Thanks
