Numberplate Fixings

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Ive got some private plates to put on my car, just waiting for the log book to come back.

I was just wondering what type of fixings you guys use (for the ones that have changed there plates)

Reason i ask is because i took the rear plate off to have a look and noticied it was pure metal.

Now im a bit concerned about drilling some new holes?

Cheers guys

Yes i have done this with my private plates.Take old plate off car and tape it in front of your new private plate with masking tape.drill through the two holes on old plate through your new one.If you are using the color caps you can buy from the motor factors white, black, yellow the screws are smaller so put raul plugs into the screw holes in bumpers and use Stanley knife to cut off excess.Affix your new plates and caps.I have done this many times so i know it works.

I bought the adhesive foam pads from Halfords, they have done me well! I think they're about £6 for 6 pads

My bf stuck my number plates on with trim tape from Halfords. Looks much better than the screwed on plates that the dealer fitted.

Adhesive foam tape is the best way.

Colin.

as said already...double sided tape

If you use tape, don't drive through any floods or deep fords......ask Dangull

My rear number plate is held on by double sided tape – looks much better than screwed on. :)

But the front number plate didn’t seem to stick to good to the plastic number plate mount area (fell off twice  ) so I ended up using screws. But at least the holes are already there on the front mount. :)

 the tape I used was ertainly not up to the job. I keep meaning to drill my plain plates, not liking the dealer monsters I have on the moment.

i would never use tape due to the lack of security, vandel proof screws are the best way
