ABS or non-ABS rear bearing? 06 Mk5

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I know that my offside rear wheel bearing needs replacing. My cousin works in a garage so can press it in.

I just don't know whether I need to get the ABS or non-ABS version?? I put my reg into various car part sites and all of them give me the options.

Is there anyway to find out? My rear brakes are drums which are cable operated which I didn't think worked with ABS but I saw on one site a bearing and drum unit labelled as ABS.

my 2007 fiesta had rear drum brakes and they definitely had abs sensors in the backplate. look at the backplate from behind the wheel. near where the rigid metal brake fluid pipe goes on there, there should be a wire for the abs sensor.  My sister's 2004 fiesta has abs. I would be suprised if your 2006 did not.

Almost certainly will have ABS at 2006.

Only the handbrake part of the drums is cable operated, they also use a small hydraulic cylinder (like a small caliper piston) for the foot brake so ABS works in exactly the same way on drums as discs.

Make sure to have it pressed in the right way round, the ABS on these uses a magnet in the bearing so it only works one way.

They normally have ABS fitted, my 2006 Fiesta Freedom have ABS fitted, ABS ring is attach on drum but unsure where is sensor, I'm sure you got ABS fitted.
