Upgrading from ST-Line to ST-3

Featured Replies

So I got an email from Ford last week with a very tempting deal, and I have gone ahead and done it.

On the 11th I will be collecting my new ST-3.

I have not specced any optional extras apart from premium paint. What can I expect moving from the ST-Line 140 to the ST-3?

Envy?😀

A bigger fuel bill...

Seriously though - there are a few folk on here with Mk 8 ST's, but don't know if any have gone from an ST-L?

Not a huge difference in the "kit count", particularly if going from an X, apart from the Recaro seats, but obviously a fair bit more grunt, sharper steering (particularly if you've gone for the performance pack with its lsd), a bit higher fuel consumption and higher insurance depending on age.

Also a firmer ride of course. I've not yet managed a decent test in a Mk 8, but I had a good few drives in the Mk 7.5 and personally couldn't have lived with the ride on the roads I have to use, though I believe it was improved when it got the ST200 set-up near the end of it's run.

So I'm very interested in how you get on with the change from an ST-L as it's still very much something I'm thinking about when the time comes to change mine.

I would have gone for the ST3 but the deal on the ST-Line was way better

Maybe next time :wheelchair:

In many reviews of the ST, there’s a lot of comments saying the MK8 ST is far more comfortable than the MK7 so hopefully the comfort for a performance vehicle will be surprisingly good

though obvious, I think the biggest change will be the power. Like Eric says there isnt all that much difference between an ST Line X and a ST3 (in terms of everyday usable toys) so I think you’ll see a lot more smiles each time you put your foot down

What was the deal and why wasn't I offered one? 😄

That does seem to be the case, and sometimes firmer doesn't necessarily mean more uncomfortable as the better body control stops the car moving around so much.

It's a shame that at the moment there are 48 hour test drives available on all sorts of cars that I have no interest in buying. A couple of days zooming round the Dales in an ST would sort the question for me one way or another!

This was the only offer I could see on the Ford UK website - basically £1,000 deposit contribution and 2.9% apr

Hi.

If you do have any issues with insurance for the new car then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

Picking the car up on Monday, so I'll be sure to tell you about my experience in terms of the differences, Im looking forward to the difference in power though.

My current ST-L is a standard one with a reversing camera, bigger screen and satnav. Not that I ever use the satnav as I'm always using Google maps.

The deal was essentially the £1000 Contribution from Ford, with an extra £1500 from the dealer as a loyalty bonus. Mean that there is only a £20 a month difference between the two cars.

Also a bit of a strange one in terms of insurance, hastings is actually giving me an £18 rebate moving from the ST-L to the ST3

That's good to see - don't often get rewarded for loyalty nowadays!

Very odd - they usually charge something like that as an admin fee just for changing cars, even if the basic premium's the same.

Look forward to hearing how you get on with the car - enjoy!😀

Took a long time thinking about upgrading to the St but made the decision to stick with the St Line X 140 when another good deal was offered to me.

Much cheaper running costs pushed me into this and as said above, feature wise there isn't much difference between the two now since my new model will even have 18 inch alloys as standard.
