burning oil 1.6tdci

Featured Replies

when i say burning oil i mean very little amount, roughly 200ml over 300miles.  it is a 2008 mk6 ford fiesta 1.6tdci, it smoke blue upon starting but clears almost instant asif it only smokes while cranking, and it smokes when letting off the acceleration or when changing gear. i can accelerate all the way without any smoke untill i let off.if i stop at a red light for a while bit it let out a little puff when pulling away. it runs perfect other than this, no misfire or engine judder at all. i am thinking the valve seals and have been told the same by a few people. the vehicle has only done 30k miles so hopefully shouldnt be anything too major at that mileage. TIA

i don't know the answer. My 2007 1.6tdci did 146k miles in my ownership, then my bother did another 20k in it, before leaving it in his garden for the last 12 months. But it never smoked and it never needed topping up with oil in between oil changes which i was doing every 15k (which i know is higher then ford say but my use of car was far from worse cases scenario).

I'm wondering if piston rings gummed up, can that happen through lack of use?

but i agree that valve seals could be it if smoking when starting due to oil running down the valves when parked
