Mk7 ST illuminated sill light...more problems!

Featured Replies

Hello all, I'm hoping someone could give me some tips, but I think I might need to bit the bullet and head on down to the local Ford dealer!

Seems to be a very common problem for Fiesta owners that the illuminated door sill lights (with < < < ST > > > illuminated) partially die, get water damaged etc.
My passenger-side sill light hasn't been working since I bought it, decided to give it a look over to see what's up with it, I was hoping for a loose connection!

Unfortunately I found significant water-damage once I started disassembly, and when I got down to the circuit level, a lot of the connections were corroded. I tried cleaning them as best as I could, and was able to use a multimeter to verify I was getting 12V to the ribbon cable feed, and I had continuity between all of the LEDs on the board. They were actually lighting up red when I was doing this (when disconnected from the car), and was extremely hopefully that it would work.

Didn't have any joy with it connected to the car, so I'm kinda stumped. It's probably one of the other components on the board that's damaged, so I think it's dead, unless someone has managed to fix theirs?

I was also thinking of buying an aftermarket replacement sill light and frankensteining them together as I prefer the original design on the unit.

They seem to be a bit of a disaster for reliability!
