Gears won't change.

Featured Replies

I have a Ford Fiesta 1.4 2003 and the gears won't change all of a sudden.  The Gear stick moves a little from side to side but it won't engage in any of the gears whether the engine is on or off.  When i turn the car on it just stalls.  The clutch pedal is moving just as normal.  A new clutch was fitted about 2 months ago so a new clutch isn't the answer.  Anyone have any ideas?

Does it stall if you start it with your foot on the clutch?

Yeah it does.

That means it's likely to be clutch related

Yeah, as above that's a clutch fault.  The gearbox and engine should be completely separate when you press the clutch, so it should start and run with the clutch pressed even if it's stuck in gear.  It should then stall when you lift the clutch.

If a garage fitted the clutch, contact them and let them know what's happened.
