clipstate
Im in the Army and have took my mk1 focus hatchback out to germany where im based. I have to register the car as a British Forces Germany motor. Part of the BFG process is changing your lights to european standard. ive changed my headlights over but am stuck on how to change my rear fog and reverse light over. I have found LHD rear fog and LHD reverse light case but i dont know how to change the actual light over so the light stops working as a RHD fog or reverse light. i was told i might be able to change the wiring over in the junction box in the boot but when i looked at it it looks like the wires for the fog and the reverse light bypass it. I dont know if im being stupid or that is the case. If i need to 'll just cut the wires and extend them to allow me to put them into the other light cluster but im not sure what wiring id need to buy? I hope that makes sense to someone as at the moment its a major headache for me as i have to have it done within 30 days or i get a load of grief!! cheers

To feed the PA ECU, I just cut into the reversing light feed just behind the rear bumper nearside [mounting the actual ECU in the boot]. Behind the rear bumper, Near Side directly behind the reversing lamp you will see some wires wrapped together, then they part company going to the reversing lamp. With the remaining two which shoot off pressed into clips on the bumper extending over to the fog lamp. So if your set up is the same on your motor which I would suspect it is. I would just cut both switch wires [that's the positive feed for each lamp] coming via the fog and reverse lamp switches, just where the fog and reverse lamp cables part company nearside behind the bumper. So now you have four wire ends, now just reconnect the fog lamp wire to the reverse lamp feed.[crossing over in effect] Leaving you to then reconnect the wire coming out of the reverse lamp to the fog lamp feed. Job done, you can either do a soldered connection, wrapped with some insulation tape. Or you could just use a couple of 5 amp connectors. That way it's easier to switch them back if you bring the car back to the UK.
Moggsie
Hi all, I'm in a similar situation to the OP, in as much as I have to change the reversing light and rear fog light configuration on my 2009 plate Focus. Having had a quick look behind the rear bumper, the wiring as described above does not appear to be the same as mine?! Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated - if necessary I shall look to completely disconnect the Origional wires, lengthen them and run them the full length of the rear bumper before reconnecting.
