Weird thing inside engine bay - Focus 1.0

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me what could this thing be? It was placed on top of ignition wires.

I should mention that the bonnet was rarely opened by me and no one else, so there isn't possible that someone would put it there.

The last time i opened the bonnet the thing wasn't there.

There is also a small like oil stain on top of turbo safety cover (where the bolt is).spacer.pngspacer.png

Looks like an animal has taken a cookie inside engine bay.

Definitely looks like vegetable matter, possibly potato?
Oily mark may be purely residue from that?
I'd say rat or mouse intrusion, check your engine wiring for small bite marks.
Rats seem to have a taste for rubber for some reason and in particular HT lead insulation.

Thank you guys for replys. I'm gonna check the wiring tomorrow for possible bite marks.

Should i buy anti-rodent spray or should I install sound repellent?

Years ago in our old Clio we had a bad burning smell, the smell of burning hair, stopped the car as we could hear screams so popped the bonnet only to see a cat wedged between the exhaust and bulkhead, i frantically tugged at the cat and free'd the bugger, cat then attacked me and ran off.

Perhaps you ran over a discarded Christmas dinner and a roast potato ended up in your engine bay.....🤔

I think a taste test is required.

Well, I did not think od any vegetable that looks like that, it could be some kind od root.

It looked more like dried polyurethane aerosol.

I can ship it to you of you'd like to taste.

That what happens when you try to bake your Yorkshire pudding in the engine.

I'm pretty sure that's expanding foam isn't it?  Weighs virtually nothing so easy to blow off a builders truck/skip and up into your engine bay!

That was my first thought, bit it was not so light, weighed almost like a stone, probably some kind od matter froze.

I've checked for bite marks but there were none.

If you can cut it in half the appearance of the cut halves might give you a clue what it is?

This is reminding me of Al Murray's Great British Pub Quiz where they have a section where they show something odd and ask "Wottisit?"😀

To bad you didn't post this before. I left it in front of our flat but was later gone. So probably someone threw it away

Maybe someone seen it and said ahhh ive been looking for that and took it.

Looks like a roast potato from an xmas/sunday dinner. When you chucked it down possibly rats in the area nicked it back for scran.

I have a few near me but soon as i spot them they get a taste of lead at high velocity.

They do like the taste of the plastic insulation on wires...its class when i see them "pop" when they chew threw railway wires. So if you start getting the money light on your car you know some wires have been chewed. Best get some poisons/traps down.

I really don't know what was that.

Hope that i won't find anything similar or event worse - chewed wires.
