MK8 LED Dipped Beams

Featured Replies

A little while ago in the price list for the MK8 fiesta, in the spec list an entry for LED Dipped Beams came up.

ive seen a few 69 plate Fiestas in person and via autotrader and they definitely have LEDs for dipped beams, meaning dipped halogens aren’t around anymore.

Does anyone have any information of how the bulb might look? Do we think it’s a bulb swap like an Autobeam retrofit or an entire new headlight?

ive sent off an enquiry to a dealer about a possible retrofit but interesting to see that the dipped beams are now LEDs as I’d have thought that makes the £600 full led option a little pointless just for led high beams

The Active 1 is the only trim level that comes standard with the LED headlights as far as I can make out.  If the cars you're seeing have LED dipped beams they've either paid for the optional LED headlights or they've installed aftermarket LED bulbs into the normally halogen bulb housings.

If the cars have OEM LED headlights then there's no bulbs to replace and the headlight is a sealed unit.  If one of the LED elements goes out then you'd have to replace the entire headlight.

Hope that helps!

Confusingly the from 01/01/20 pricelist says LED projector (low beam) headlights with LED dayrunning lights. I wasn't aware that LED lights are ever projector so I am not sure if this is right.

This is something I was confused about too but I’ve been seeing 69 plates with LED projectors, including ones for sale via Ford so I don’t think it’s a mistake but it’s just what they offer now.
which is why I think it could be a tempting retrofit if it’s going straight into a projector housing

Our 69 plate (built Oct 19) only has Halogen bulbs.  Have you got a link to an advert?

I don't know what you guys are looking at but the current brochure on the website states 'Headlights - Halogen projector with silver (this is grey for the ST models) bezel and dedicated LED daytime running lights'.

The optional LED headlight states 'Headlights - Full LED, static, with dynamic leveling and scrolling LED turn indicators (grey bezel on ST)'.

Those are the only options I can see unless the brochure on the Ford.co.uk site is out of date?

No idea how to grab a link from autotrader app but the below pic gives a good idea.
Looks like a standard projector with an led bulb for dipped beam

Yeah, I would say that's just someone having put either an LED or whiter halogen bulb in the standard projector housing.  I've done the same on mine, it's a fairly normal thing to do.

If cars have the factory fit LED headlights the low beam actually has two lenses illuminated within each housing, this makes it a little easier to identify.

If that's one in Acrington, yes I've found it.

That is a vey new one as it's a Trend with the 95ps Ecoboost engine, ours is only the 1.1 85ps.

They look much whiter than our headlights so it looks like they are now LED.

As it is advertised as a brand new car, I very much doubt it has been modded already!! It does look like the lights are changed for 2020.25 model year.

Where are the details for MY2020.25 changes?

From looking further on in the pictures, Trends do now have LED rear lights too.

I'm wondering if it's just the camera as even the advert states halogens in projector housings with LED running lights?

According to the pricelist  on Trend models (and confirmed by your eagle eyed pictures) LED dipped lights, LED rear lights and drive modes. The pricelist also states modem even without Nav, and excepting the ST the "leather" steering wheel except Trend is now sensico

Fair point, it also has manual headlight adjustment, I thought all LED lights had to be auto adjusting (even though lower powered Xenons don't) so who knows. Weird that the pricelist is a little ambiguous.

I see it now on the pricelist.  I really don't know what the deal is then?  Possibly they've upgraded to LED dipped beams, but as pointed out they have to have self leveling I believe, so an easy way to tell would to see if they do a little calibration up and down on startup?

The brochure is 2019.75 model year so behind my car which is a 2020 my

Yes, brochure not updated yet

All my 2020 Fiesta above trend will have LED dipped beams inside the projection with auto level that you will find the switch on the rear beam passenger side. Also one way to tell is there is no levelling  switch on the middle of the headlight switch.

Full Led had 4 lights 2 low to high beam with dynamic indicators

I hope that helps

I know what you mean. I spent the extra got full LED upgrade amazing light output.

So is this an easier upgrade from standard headlights? Sounds like the levelling stuff is self contained so you might be able to simply swap in the new headlight unit??

I don’t know about the system here but on my previous cars with self levelling lights, they had sensors attached to suspension points to tell how compressed they were and adjust accordingly. If that’s the case it likely wouldn’t be a reasonable upgrade. Unless they have the LED elements separate to buy and you just go without the levelling and risk it.

This is a 2020my Fiesta ST Line, it has the drive modes (proving it is a 2020 my) yet still has the headlight height adjuster. The headlights do look whiter.  Also the brochure pricelist says LED dipped projector lights on a Trend too.  Looks like the standard lights are not auto height adjusters.

And a new sync3 theme on that car??
