Focus 2016 automatic headlights problem

Featured Replies

Helou everybody

My name is Peter, I'm from Frankfurt/Germany, proud owner of 2016 Focus 1.5 tdci Titanium.

Have problem and I need help to solve it.

About two months ago someone damaged my Focus on parking, lucky Me, that person left his phone number and insurance will cover the damage, on first look nothing serious, just small body damage on left wing over front wheel.

But, since this happened, automatic switching on of the headlights is not working anymore, I own this Focus two years and I almost never switched headlight manually, I just kept it on 0 (zero) position and light sensor was doing his work perfectly.

Until this happened.

Can someone tell me is there somewhere some sensor or some module hidden which could be damaged on impact and this have a malfunction now?

I have no tool to do diagnostic, but will buy one if that can help me to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Isn't the O position off? On mine the auto position isn't the O but a symbol that looks like a bulb with rays coming out of it.  See here

Don't you mean this one , the one you linked hasn't got auto position.

Oops, yes, fat fingers, but either way it's not the O but the icon that looks like a bulb with the A inside it and rays coming out of it

It look maybe strange, but switch position is always on 0, when I with remote clicked to unlock the car, headlamps went on (no light in garage), after this crash, not any more, also when I click to lock the car, headlamps went on and stayed on about 30 seconds, after the crash, not any more.

It have to be some sensor or something else that control those commands and that is broken now, I need information what is that and where is position of it.

My car also have parking sensors all around the car and automatic parking, this work normal.

Ah, that's not autolamps, that is the follow me home function, the lights come on/stay on so you can see around the car when you enter/exit it at night.  Why yours now aren't working I have no idea.

I did find this procedure for some Ford models to activate/deactivate perimeter lamp features. I have no idea if it would work on your car though so if you try it it's at your own risk.

You may perform the following power door lock sequence to
enable/disable the perimeter lamps feature.
Note: Before starting, ensure the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all vehicle doors are closed.

You must complete Steps 1–5 within 30 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, wait a
minimum of 30 seconds before beginning again.

1. The ignition must be OFF to
begin the sequence.
2. Place the key in the ignition and
turn the ignition to the 3 (RUN)
position.
3. Press the power door unlock
control on the door panel three
times.
4. Turn the ignition from the 3
(RUN) position to the 1 (LOCK) position.
5. Press the power door unlock control on the door panel three times.
6. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (RUN) position. The horn will chirp
one time to confirm programming mode has been entered and is active.
7. Press the power door unlock control twice within 5 seconds. Note:
The horn will chirp once to indicate the perimeter lighting feature has
been deactivated. The horn will chirp once and honk once (one short
and one long) to indicate the perimeter lighting feature has been
activated.
8. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position to exit the procedure.
Note: The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.

Have no key ignition, have start/stop button.

If I leave light switch on auto position, headlights are always on, day or night.

Sounds like you have a faulty sensor then, may simply be a coincidence that it happened at the same time as your 'bump'

For start/stop buttons press the start/stop button but without depressing the clutch so the engine doesn't start.

Do you know where is that sensor? In windscreen?

The sensor for the auto lights is at the top of the windscreen behind the big plastic cover near the rear view mirror. It is the same sensor that makes the automatic wipers work.

Does anyone know where are fuses and relays in my Focus.

The Focus MK3 / MK3.5 has 3 different fuse boxes:

1: Under the bonnet.
2: Under the dashboard inside the passenger footwell. This fuse bo is integrated into the BCM (Body Control Module).
3: In the boot (only present on higher spec. vehicles that have functionality that requires the boot fuse box).

The Focus MK3 / MK3.5 has very few replacable relays. The only replaceable relays that the MK3/MK3.5 has are installed in the fuse box under the bonnet. All other relays are SMD relays that are soldered directly onto the circuit board of the BCM. These are considered not serviceable. In case of a defective SMD relay (which is extremely rare) the complete BCM needs to be replaced.
