Periodic buzzing from dash when off

Featured Replies

I was sitting in my 2015 Fiesta (Titanium, Irish model) during my lunch hour today and noticed a periodic sound coming from the dash. It's coming from behind the stereo controls, sounds like a small motor whirring up (something like the vibrate on a phone), and is around 1 second long every 30 seconds. The car hasn't been started in several hours.

Anyone have any idea what I'm hearing?

Know exactly what it is and it does my head in every six months, so I've got to take it out and clean it and put everything back....Shouldn't have to be doing this as I've broken the gear lever surround now!!

It could also be the heater actuator as well . Mines clicks  when I switch of engine as if its returning  home position.

Thanks for the responses guys. Fortunately the noise I'm talking about is much quieter than that in the video, and only happens every 30s or so rather than constantly, so I can live with it if the alternative is dismantling the console like that!

All depends on how filthed up the little fan has got, the thicker the dust the more unbalanced it gets, results in more noise.

By the way there's no need to remove the full stereo, just removing the heater controls gives you enough space to get at that sensor.

Did you ever find out how to resolve this? Mine is doing the exact same thing. It makes the noise for about 1-2 seconds every 30 seconds or so and does it constantly even hours after it’s been turned off. It’s a stop/start car. It’s done this ever since I bought it brand new in 2020 but I never thought to question the noise until my neighbour did. Recently had to change my battery so I’m wondering if it’s draining my battery also.

It’s not the same noise as the fan video unfortunately.
