Short ram intake?

Featured Replies

Hi all, just passed my driving test before lock down, and I'm keen to make some changes to my fiesta- although I'd rather spend my money under the bonnet within reason rather than just aesthetics- as well as learning a bit along the way.

My fiesta is a mk7.5 2013 1.2 Style+, and I'm thinking of changing the intake and springs further down the line- but I'm focusing on the intake atm.

Because it's just a Style, I want to hear people's thoughts on if it's even worth bothering switching to a short ram, or am I just wasting my money- I'm not expecting significant changes to performance but everything seems to be advertised for ST's so a little guidance would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

I think every enthusiast should mod.  I've done it and enjoyed it.

I mean yes, unless you spend thousands you'll not get a blistering increase on a 1.2, however you will be learning how to do it for when you get a car that will benefit.  And there's a good feeling when you've dont it right yourself and your car is just that bit different than the others.  It's like drilled discs, in reality they make feck all difference unless you're on a track but they look great so why not.

For your car it all depends on how restrictive the stock intake is, you might get a bit of an improvement.

@Guy Heaton good to hear, so do you think an induction kit advertised for a mk7 ST would fit and be appropriate for my mk7 1.2?

Might not.  You would need to check the bore of the intake pipe against the bore of yours.  I'd have thought the ST would be a lot bigger.

If you want to have a go at induction kits things like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=bmc+cda&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=3 come with different bore sizes, or you can get adapter pipes.

@Guy Heaton ok thanks for the help.

Personally I wouldn't pump much money into it. If you're into cars, you'll want a better car in a year or two when your insurance price comes down for something that's not an eco box.

You'll never recoup the cost of any mod you put on. They simply don't add value to cars (unless you go from steel wheels to alloys but that's it).

I agree, at this time it just wouldn't be worth your while modding your car too much, recoup value wise and style wise.

Also most modifications to your car will need to be declared to your insurer and I am sure as you have just passed your test, the insurance cost for your modded car will go through the roof.

Yes, would agree with Luke and Martin on this one. Loads of threads on here over the years on modding the 1.25 (or not) - example below:

I would concentrate on making sure what you have  is in top condition -servicing, brakes, tyres etc - and put your cash towards your next car when the time comes.

Hi.

If you need any help with insurance for modifications at all then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan
