Windscreen washer pump faulty.

Featured Replies

Just thought  I'd check here if anyone knows what I can do about this issue. When I push the wash button on the wiper stalk it doesn't wash it only activated the wipers. I think either the pump is dead, there a tube blocked or theres an electrical fault. Has anyone had this issue before or have a link for a thread on this topic?

Is it trying to squirt making the correct sound?

Probably a blocked wash filter, it sits between the tank and pump.
They tend to clog with screenwash residue.
You can either run a powerwash hose into the filler cap or remove the pump and clean the filter.

@Stoney871 I think that’s the issue, going to try and fix it today, thanks.

I managed to sort the problem out, the pump needed replacing, took a few hours but now I've got screen wash spraying on the windscreen

This was my problem😂

Hi, bit late to the party but the issue with the pumps is that that rubber grommet sealing the pump shaft from the impeller gets worn, water seeps into the motor from here and rots it. The motor just seizes up. It's good they don't stay activated long because a seized pump heats up. I took both out of my Focus ST and they were both rotted out.

I looked at the damage inside opening them up with a Dremel. The motor bodies in both were heavily rusted. They are just a 12V motor in a plastic housing with a rubber grommet. Ford charge over £100 for each! I bought from an 'alternative' supplier on Ebay for a fraction of that price. Working well.
