1970s Ford Herringbone Seat Cloth

Featured Replies

Hi All,

First post - please be gentle 🙂

I have a 1979 Escort Mk2 which I've owned since the 1980s. The seats are in a bit of distress after 40 years of use so I'm about to have them recovered.  I have searched for original beige herringbone cloth, either by the yard or from existing seats that I could use to repair my seats but have been unable to source any.  My repair company have tried all of their contacts in the UK and abroad but have also been unable to find any cloth.

Before I have them recovered in something new (but unoriginal and hopefully not Betacloth!) I thought it worth a try to see if there were any members who had suggestions for any sources of used herringbone seats or herringbone cloth that I could try.  I realise it's a long shot but I'm trying to keep the car as original as possible.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

You could get something made up expensive but do able tweed would give you the herringbone pattern and as most Harris tweed is hand loomed someone might be able to knock it up for you.

Thanks @pragmatix I have discussed this option with the trimmer to see what is the closest I can get if original is not available.
