2014 Focus Zetec Mk3 overheating then cooling down

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a 2014 Focus Zetec Mk3 and sometimes after driving for around 30 minutes and then sporadically at other points during a journey the engine will heat up and the car will go into limp mode, not letting me exceed 2000rpm. Then after around 2 - 4 minutes the temp will drop again and everything works as normal. I thought it was the thermostat so I replaced that and it happened again yesterday. It's not every drive that it happens either. I'm clueless as to what it could be.

If anyone has any ideas, that would be a great help!

You may have a MK3 focus but that's all we know so a bit more details.

I have a 2014 focus 1.6 and have exactly the same problem.

In winter engine would get warm, than after 5 to 10 minutes if allowed to idle would show cold with no internal heat for about 2 minutes before returning to normal.

Now in summer, after it reaches normal temp, after 2 mins or so goes hot then limps for about 3 mins before everything goes to normal and stay there.

Very confusing.

Did you resolve this?  I have much the same going on.

I have a 2011 1.6 ford focus which has just started completely cutting out after idling (parked up with air con on) for 10/15 minutes. It then will not restart or even show signs of electricity. Once left for an hour or two it seems fine again. Any ideas please? The battery is fine, i have just had the steering rack replaced though.
