hello,

had my fiesta zetec s for about a year now but within the last few months i have had issues with the car not starting for about 5 minutes every now and then. I would get into the car, turn the key and nothing would happen, no noises no warning lights and i can do this for about 5 minutes before the car eventually starts. I took it to a friend of mine who's a mechanic and he did some tests on the car for a week and every morning the state of the battery was getting progressively worse despite a new alternator and battery. He suggested i take it to ford but with how much they charge just to diagnose i don't see a point. i have recently unplugged a connector that goes into the alternator which causes the battery light to come on but i havnt had any issues with the car starting since and read online its something linked to ford smart charging? 

any help on how to fix or get closer to fixing would be great. The car is a 1.6 tdci 2012 zetec s.
