Firmware updates under warranty

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I called for earlier today to ask them for an appointment to update my ACM module (audio control module) as per ETIS there is a 2020 update. I want to update the module to see if i can finally see the clock in android auto on my fiesta mk8.

Well... After trying to explain that this is a firmware update and not a SYNC update they finally asked me for 80 euros for the hour of service. I mean, my mk8 has the ford protect 7 years extended warranty as is just one year old (wtf).

Is it normal that they charge for these kind of updates? There are other modules that show a firmware update available in ETIS.

I think it will only be a free update if it is considered a recall.  If you just want to run the latest firmware, then Ford would charge you to update.

As above, unless it's a recall/field service action, Ford (and most other makers) have a policy of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it".

So unless you have a fault it might fix, they won't update any software under warranty, without a charge.

I didn't know this was possible - what exactly do you gain from the new firmware? I'd pay if it meant I could get the more up-to-date versions of Sync3 installed

Sync 3 you can update yourself either by using the automatic updates function on the sync screen or by going to https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support/sync-bluetooth/update#/ and type in your VIN. Will check for sync and map updates.

I meant upgrade from eg sync3 to sync 3.3.
